Sketch Tip: Easier Pen Tool Drawing By Simply Zooming In

Lately, I've been spending a lot of time in Sketch. I'm not a designer by trade, but I definitely know enough to be dangerous. One area of struggle for me has always been... the pen tool(dun dun dun).

It seems like every time I try to draw something custom with the pen tool I end up tangled in a mess of bezier curves, like this kitten:
